Devs vs Posset Pumas 29/10/2022

Halloween weekend ran alongside the dev teams first match of the season against Portishead Posset Pumas, but the team felt no fear going into this game.

The first half began as an even game, with possession on both sides, but it was Bristol who began the attack, with an early shot on target by Nim, followed by a corner. The Posset Puma’s pushed forwards however, with a couple of corners for them. These were easily collected by our cool and confident goalkeeper, Wendy. Wendy produced a great kick from goal, going from the defensive end of the pitch to the attacking, leading to a near miss from Katy.

Unfortunately, due to dev captain Asia constantly forgetting to do her physio exercises, she had to sub off halfway through the first half. Dee took up the role of defender in her place, and put in a fantastic shift next to Rosie S.

UoB continued with some fantastic attacking play, constantly putting the pressure on and moving the ball forwards until Sterre was able to capitalise from this, slotting the ball calmly into the back of the net! 1-0 to the devs!!

From here the Posset Pumas upped their attack, gaining a corner and evoking multiple saves from Wendy in goal. The first half ended with some tricky defending and Bristol struggling to get the ball out from their half. Thankfully the clean sheet remained as the whistle blew for the end of the first half.

For the second half, first team coach Bill was watching from the sidelines, and despite most of the team playing being unaware of this, his powerful aura clearly affected the team, as the devs absolutely dominated the second half.

Rosie O., despite being half blind due to a no glasses rule and last-minute converting from defender to winger, was brilliant in attack and started the second half with a lovely shot on target, saved by the opposition keeper. Saihajpreet quickly also had a shot on target of the goal, which led to a corner. The dev team may need to work on our corners however, as we had 4 consecutive corners with great deliveries into the box by Nim, but no one on the end to capitalise on them.

Once again, Rosie O. was flourishing in her new role, with another shot on target and a couple of great crosses into the box. On the other end of the pitch, Rosie S. was smothering every attack from the Posset Pumas with absolutely fantastic defending, nothing was getting past her.

The shots at goal from UoB were coming thick and fast now, with crosses by India and attempts by Nim and Katy going over the top of goal. Some great defending from Dee began the next attack, with Katy getting to the ball and producing a shot on target. The opposition goalkeeper had the ball in her hands, but fumbled, dropping the ball so it rolled between her legs and into the goal – 2-0 for the devs!

Bristol didn’t sit on this 2-0 lead however, and continued to press forwards in the attack. There was a great bit of passing between India, Becca and Katy which led to another shot on target for Katy. Meanwhile, Rosie S. and Dee were a wall in defence, with balls rarely getting near the goal. Posset Pumas tried for long distance shots, but Wendy was confident in goal and was easily able to make the saves.

A final attack for Bristol was led by Rosie O., as she ran down the line and put a great cross into the box, that was collected by the keeper before another player could get on the end of it. Then blew the final whistle, with a 2-0 win to the devs!! Player of the Match was given to Katy for her constant and persistent shots at goal, and special mention goes to Rosie S. as her defending was incredible through the whole match, and nothing was getting past her.

The dev team hope to continue the winning ways in November, with their next match against Scottingham Forest.
