Our 2s headed over to Swansea for their second game of the season to face Swansea 2s. This was a monumental game, it was the debut of #Gaz, so the pressure was on. Spirits were high and the 2s were feeling confident following their triumph at Gloucester the week before as well as the new instalment of Gaz Wiegman.
The whistle blew and the moment had come. The ref who must have had 12 eyes and impeccable zoom, opted for no linesmen, an interesting choice. While the freshers on the side lines were frantically questioning Keira on the looming 'Welcome drinks', the 2s started strong seeing a cross in from Chloe, narrowly missed by Bella. A beautifully executed slide tackle from Bree resulted in the questionable decision from the ref of a drop ball. This was not well received by Gaz, who shook his head in disgust. A chance on goal from Swansea was swiftly resurrected by Annie who played it back to Amy Earps, who played to Molly, onto Bella. Bella, mockingly chipped the keeper and the crowd went wild!!! 1-0 Bristol! An interception from Hoda resulted in Gary stating that she 'got her skipper out of jail' (???). Alice is putting in some gorgeous balls, Molly is putting in some viscious tackles and Amy is commanding from the back. All is looking well (despite Bella missing a 1v1 with the keeper, but we'll forgive her due to her stunner of a goal before). The 2s are undeniably controlling the game. After a violent tackle from Phoebe, a penalty is awarded to Swansea, resulting in some intense confrontation with Gaz and the Swansea gaffa. However, an incredible save from Amy brings tears of joy to Gaz's eyes and extreme gloating towards the other coach (don't mess with Gaz). The second half commenced and spirits slightly dropped as God decided to absolutely poop it down. The torrential rain was a slight distraction unfortunately allowing Swansea to score. 1-1. However the girls managed to hold on and walked away undefeated!
After an incredibly soggy match de brief, the girls headed onto the coach on their way to Captain Anna Bowes house. Overall a good performance was put in, and it seems the girls managed to not completely scare Gaz off, who shared some positive words on the coach back, awarding Amy POTM for a ruthless performance in goal and a crucial game saving penalty. Swansea better look out for when they come to coombe dingle, where linesmen will certainly be present and the girls will be hungry for a win. On to the next!
