The 3s faced Southampton 2s in their first game of the season. After an early morning and a long old 2-hour coach journey joint with some actually very entertaining men’s volleyball players (despite their initial first impression which involved us waiting in the SU for 3 hours whilst they ‘showered’), the 3s arrived in Southampton ready to bring home a win.
We started the game strongly with the first goal within 20 seconds of the whistle, scored confidently by star striker Jet. However, the first half proved tough as the press was high by Southampton, meaning they squeezed in a goal within the last 10 minutes of the first half. Halftime was critical- a pep talk by our coach Owen and some major changes are made to the lineup. The 3s headed out in a better position with more confidence to claim the second half. And that’s just what we did- two beautiful freekicks scored by the POTM Roxanne summed up the half where some beautiful football was played. Shoutout to both Lola P and Milly SF for some outstanding footwork that put a big smile on Owens’s face.
A win for the first game was just what the 3s needed to take the rest of the season by storm and that is what we plan to do.
