2s vs Swansea 2s 12/10/2022

The mighty UBWFC 2s arrived at Coombe feeling confident for their first match of the season. It was a tepid day with the grass in tiptop condition. Bristol started strong after a delayed kickoff due to Swansea’s lateness, with clears from the backline and early corners for both teams. Left back Ella had a brilliant start working tirelessly running up and down the line and managing to get two powerful shots on goal within the first 10 minutes. Despite many shots throughout the first half the Swansea keeper was having an excellent game saving everything that came her way . On the other end of the pitch Phoebe was making the Swansea attacker’s lives difficult through impressive tackles and the odd head collision. In spite of shots from Alice, Bea, Anna B, Chloe and Anna W the first half ended 0-0.

After a quick pep talk from coach Dean the second half commenced, with Swansea starting more intensely piling on the pressure. Within minutes a ball in behind the back line split the defence open but wonder woman Eve Rhind cleared it effortlessly. A great run up the line from Noa won Bristol a corner and we started to gain confidence, looking like the stronger team once again. Anna W played a perfect ball to Annie who smashed it into the back of the net... 1-0 BRISTOL!!! The crowd goes wild with chants of “there’s only oneee Annie Ackerman” echoing around Coombe. Aggressive headers from Eve ensured that the ball stayed in the attacking half allowing Bea to play a lovely layback to Anna W who played a dangerous through ball in the attempt of setting up Annie for a second. The Swansea fullback panicked and kicked the ball into the air, over the keeper and into the net, 2-0.

Bristol kept their nerve and stayed on the attack. Captain Bea received the ball on the wing, powerfully played into Yas who then spun the Swansea centre back and placed the ball clinically into the corner of the net. Mad skillz from our vet, 3-0 Bristol. The atmosphere was electric as the 3s came to support. Yas and Anna W were linking up splendidly uptop causing havoc in the Swansea defence, unfortunately the final whistle blew before they could capitalise on a chance. Final Score: 3-0 Bristol.

Shoutout to Millie for a great game standing in as keeper. Not many saves were required due to the outstanding performance of Bristol’s defence, however her composure and distribution of the ball from the back was excellent.
