2s vs Swansea 2s 22/03/2023

The twos had arrived in Swansea for their last game of the season where they were greeted by Nigel, or as Brandon calls him, Nige. With many of Brandons games being refereed by ‘Nige’, he told us not to get on the wrong side of him. The game started off well, the sun was shining (for once), and Bristol were quickly awarded a free kick at the edge of the box. Unfortunately, it hit the wall, Ellie followed it up, but it skimmed past the goal. Swansea were in possession and managed to have a shot on goal, however, Wendy cleared it up and got the ball forwards again, where Ellie took a brilliant throw that led to a Bristol corner. No goal was to come from this corner, not to worry though, a second one was awarded. The play that followed gave Bristol the lead. With a cross in the box from Maya to Annie, who sent the ball to the bottom corner of the net. 1-0 Bristol. The play reset and it was at around this point Serena gave someone a nose bleed from what was meant to be a long ball forwards, not intentionally of course. Perhaps this incident was foreshadowing for Swansea, worse was yet to come for one of their players. Play restarted following the nose bleed, Millie was dribbling through the middle and Chloe down the wing. Alice was being skilful in the box. It was all looking good until … The ball was played back to Anna, she got it under control and made it clear she was going to strike the ball hard (I think it was a shot on goal). Just as she swung her leg back a Swansea player emerged. Unfortunately, it was too late and the ball made contact with another Swansea players head, causing this puoor girl to pass out. Oops. The first half ends. Honourable first half mention - Brandon was quoted to say “I love High School Musical, it was my favourite growing up”.

The second half was looking promising. With Annie working hard, running the length of the pitch, and Millie getting some chances on goal. Beth set her sights on goal, with a great free kick and then a shot on goal not long after following a Bea nutmeg. Chloe also got close to goal, but somehow the score remains 1-0. Noa and Hannah also had close chances but the Swansea keeper was doing well to defend her goal. Swansea won possession, and a corner was given in the Bristol half. It was easily cleared and Beth received the ball at right back, the asthma didn’t stop her on this day as she made a great run down the line. Her and Chloe did their excellent link up on the right and the ball was back in the Swansea half. Chloe had another two shots on goal but unfortunately nothing was to follow. Although we had possession for most of the game when we did lose the ball Millie and Hollie tracked back and put in some impressive tackles. The game finishes with a great ball forwards by Maya which Bea chases up all the way to the keeper where they collided and Bea ended up on the floor. Dedication. Final score 1-0 Bristol. Honourable second half mention - another Brandon quote “Cheers Nige, you prick”.
